100k Ergo World Record (Indoor Rowing)
Well as this forum is for personal bests and the like, as well as introductions, I just thought I'd tell you all about a new world record that my team set on Sunday. The 100k concept2 world record is a sprint relay record involving a team of 10. In 1999 the record was set in a head to head race by a Leander Club team made up of Olympic standard rowers including Sir Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell. The team they beat in that head to head then went on to build a stronger team and retake the record back in 2001, that team went under the name of Royce's gym, based in Wigan. Back in the summer a newly formed indoor rowing team, known as MAD Team, decided to put together a squad to beat the record. We then trained hard between the summer and last Sunday, when we went for the record. For those who know anything about paces on a concept2 rowing machine, when the record was held by Leander it was an average pace of 1:19.1, and when Royce's gym beat the record they reduced it to 1:17.4 pace, which was a time of just over 4 hours 17mins. Think of it like a 4 x 100m running relay, only in a team of 10, and lasting over 4 hours, as that's how it works. We have to use one machine with a running clock to include all changes. So the way is it done is with a 10sec flat out sprint then change, the changeover take less than 1 second. So it's over 4 hours of 10sec sprint / 90sec rest, basically. The record was smashed on Sunday by MAD Team in a new world record time of 4 hours 12mins 46.7 seconds, an average pace of 1:15.8. Just over 5mins off the old record. To see who the team are, visit: http://www.onlinerowing.co.uk/madteamwebsite/index.htm We also were using this event to raise money for the national deaf childrens society, so if anyone would like to make a donation, please visit: http://www.justgiving.com/madteam100k Thanks for reading this far. Cheers, Pete
Hi
Hi and Gongratulations to your team!
I am mostly a water rower but during these months I work a lot on the ergo. My problem is that especially when my coach tells me to do long series I get bored of pulling for an hour or even more and this results in a poor performance. How do you put yourself to pull each stroke with all your power?

100k Ergo World Record (Indoor Rowing)
Hi,
You should look at the forum on the UK concept2 site:
www.concept2.co.uk/forum
Great place for talking to other rowers (indoor and out) and getting lots of tips on training etc.
Yesterday was round 4 of the British indoor rowing grand prix series in Cambridge, where I managed a new 2k personal best of 6:11.8.
How do you put full effort in for a long row on the ergo? Well, through training I guess. An hour on the ergo initially is a long way, and you do get bored, but once you've done it a few times, and you try to beat your best distance each time, you just get used to "pulling hard" for a long time.
I actually find it easier to concentrate on the long ergo rows when I put in more effort, if that makes sense? If I do an hour slow, that's when I get bored, but if I'm really working hard all the time I have to concentrate otherwise I slow.

100km Challenge
Hi All,
First of all well done to all the members of the MAD team - such an amazing time! I've been doing Indoor rowing for about 18 months now and still struggle to do sprinting work - let alone keep doing it for 4 hours! Will definately go online and make a donation in a few days - well done.
Having completed 2 rowing marathons I have just made my biggest achievement so far which was rowing 100km in a single day. 5 members of the rowing team took part in the event which was last saturday, rowing 100km each, the quickest person finishing in 8 hours 53:25.9 and the last person finishing in 11 hours 55:35.9 (which was me!). Hurt like mad but so glad i did it. We have currently raised just over £1500 for the air ambulance but are still hoping to hit our £3000 target. If anyone would like to make a donation please visit www.justgiving.com/dlrowing
Any tips on how to improve my time, and anything to help me do sprinting work would be fab.
Take care everyone,
Nikki.
