Does anyone know what a reletivly good time would be for a 1500 metre race? I am only a beginner so any range from novice to elite would be helpful.

Thanks

1500 metres swimming?

Hi,

If you are talking swimming a good starting time could be from 25 - 35 minutes, depending on your level of fitness. The champ swims it in 14.26

I have cut my time by over 5 minutes since joining peak performance, and it's only been a month.

If it's running you're talking about, I can't help, but I'd say faster than that

If your talking running then...

good junior Female: anything sub 4.35
good junior Male: sub 3.55
Top Male: sub 3:45
Top female:sub 4.05

If your just starting out i'd aim for around 5min (if female) then chip down that time. I find 1500 harder than 800, so don't go nuts on your first one, find out how it feels then keep progressing.

Appologies if your talking swimming!

Wow, those are pretty fast times! I thought I had done pretty good for
the first time I ran relative distances. I started as a distance runner.
I tried the SPRINTS just a few weeks ago. We did not do the 1500M,
but we did the 400M, 800M, & 1600M. So, I am stuck trying to predict
what I might do it in. There are too many variables though. The weather
was Nasty Hot 90 + W/80% humidity. Did the 800m in 2:50, and 1600M
in 6:19. It was a first. It was very hard to breath, but I went as fast as my little legs would carry me. I have not sprinted in 3 weeks, but need to
do it again a few times to say the least for my quality training sessions. (October Marathon will be herre before I know it) I could squeeze in maybe 6 more of those speed sessions.

I wonder if it is still possible for me to make it to that level. Those times
seem wicked fast. God bless you . . .

Isn't 14.34 the world record?

Grant Hackett?

Becoming a 4 minute miler

Those are pretty fast times. I haven't run any faster than 3:58, then for health reasons had to stop running competatively for a while. I would say 4:30 for the 1500 is a good time to shoot for your first year out then drop from there.

I actually just started to train for the mile again. I ran 4:22 when I was 16 and then never really improved (health issues). Anyway, I am back training and keeping a training log online with progress. My goal is a 4 minute mile, I figure you'll never know unless you try and train like an elite. So with that, check out my online blog, the running category is at
http://erikvossman.netfirms.com/nfblog/?cat=2. You may pick up some good training tips or workouts and feel free to leave me some tips and workouts.

Thanks
E

Well it was your first time, swinging your arms are very important, dont swing it rapidle but the way ppl like Jeremy Wariner, or William Bungei of Kenya, or Rashid Ramzi does it. Anything is possible, its just harder than other things. Since you do distance ill give you a qoute from Steve Prefontaine "Run every race like suicide, and today is the perfect day to die." "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice your gift." Those are my 2 favorite qoutes. You should read some books about Steve Prefontaine and see some movies cus its real inspirational.
