This is a great website and it's nice to get advice from so many knowledgeable sports people. I am 45 and have been weightlifting for 25 years and practicing martial arts for 10 years. I have a green belt in Karate, a blue belt in UTI Taekwondo, a blue belt in WTF Taekwondo and some boxing experience. I have slowed down in the last three years due to a car accident which really messed up my back. I still have recurrent bouts of muscle spasms in my rhomboids which pretty much grinds things to a hault. I posted the Spastic Romboids question in the Injuries section of this site and am hoping for some good advice. I have always been into athletics and have performed at a fairly high level in various sports. What drives me is competition and sportsmanship which abounds in Martial Arts especially when you find a good school. I'm 5'11" and weigh 227 lbs but have dropped down from 258 lbs which was just too heavy. I would be very pleased to talk to others interested in Martial Arts, weight lifting and preformance training.

I suppose it's not quite the same is it really? But I have fun, that's the main thing :D

Is body combat like self defence martial arts? I think any sport where you train, improve and better yourself and your skills rocks. A couple of the schools I've been in have taught a type of close in hand to hand self defence which I really enjoy. I'm not the most flexable person so the close in stuff is fun for me. Let me know what body combat is.

Hi there. I'm a ITF Tae Kwon-do Black Belt, although not really trained for the last couple of years. I used to be active on the competition scene with a British silver medal a few years ago. Switched to Kung Fu to search for some deeper meaning and harder training but had to curtail due to recurrent injuries. Trained with various friends and mixed up various styles eg judo, jujitsu, karate. Took up triathlon instead but currently considering a TKD comeback.

Hi, I joined this forum for insight into the world of sport as i am trying to decide which course would be best for me. I'd love to study a degree in sports/ exercise science, physiopherapy, nutrition, or strength and conditioning. I am just trying to learn as much as i can before deciding what course to take.
I currently do Judo and my dream career would be to be involved with high level judo athletes in Wales.
Sedward, I envy you for your achievements. I've come to judo a bit late but am loving every aspect to it.
A bit off topic but could anybody make any reccomendations to prepare for hopefully a career in any sport. I would love to get some heads up on the competition as i've heard that jobs in these fields are hard to come by. Thanks for any advice that you may provide.
And on the martial arts topic, i would LOVE to try muay thai, boxing or any other contact sports.
