My name is Jamie Douse. I am currently the manager of a gym in Australind in the south west of Australia. I am also a personal trainer and am trying to establish a business with the major focus being group outdoor fitness sessions and kettlebell training. I am also considering taking on further studies in the field of exercise science.

I have been heavily involved in boxing for the past 10 years, both training myself and teenagers. Recently i have begun to dabble in Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo.

My personal training focuses on boxing (purely as a form of training these days I'm 36), bjj, functional strength training using mainly bodyweight exercises and most recently kettlebells (which i find to be the most effective training tool i have ever used) and running 5 - 10 k cross country. I do however use a very broad range of variety in my training.

My major focus this year is to compete in the Donnybrook marathon as an individual competitor. The marathon consists of a 34k road ride, 7k paddle, 1.5k swim, 20k mountain bike ride, 10k walk and a 12k run.

As far as pb's go 5 k 19:01 and 10k 40:05 (down from about 25 & 55 minutes respectively 18 months ago). I also completed a half marathon in September last year in 1hr. I was a good 1500m runner at high school but unfortunately from the ages of 17 - 34 i was wooed by alcohol and drugs, eventually succumbing to their "powers" and spending a couple of years in the wilderness (I still continued to box and run during this period but never competitiively and consistency was erratic). Thankfully I was able to stop before i lost complete control and since then I have been a dedicated trainer. I joined the local cross country runners club, took up judo and bjj and regained my old passion for training and competing. I have now been clean for 18 months and have achieved more in that period than I had in the previous 17 years. I do have to be careful that I don't become "addicted" to exercise.

I am passionate about exercise and its ability to transform the lives of people from all walks of life.

I look forward to both learning from and hopefully making a worthwhile contribution to this forum.

:)
