Has anyone got any useful tips or links that could help me on my path to regain fitness?
I currently work out for almost 90 minutes a day 5 times week.
My target is as follows. I am currently 85kgs and wish to drop down to at least 75kgs.
I use a vast range of methods and to be honest not entirely successful.
I use a combination of Treadmill (with various times and speeds) nad weights.
I also incorporate swimming (80 lengths which is not far off 1.5 miles)
My diet is fair but I still cannot seem to shift the fat from the waist line.
If anyone has any tips to try and help me out here it would be well appreciated.
I am 42 years old with heavy build and 5`5 inches tall.
Thanx
Allan

Losing weight is hard unless you put the effort in. Not that you are not with all your swimming, treadmill and weights but you probably need to be more maticulous.
I have recently writen an article concerning this for the website in my signature but it is not yet on the site. I would love to give it to you as it would make explaining things a lot easier but it has been paid for and so my hands are tied.
Essentially, to lose bodyfat you have to remain in calorie deficit for a period. Dropping the amount of weight you want to will proably take between 12 and 20 weeks.
What are your weight sessions like and what is your diet.......

Weight Sessions and Diet

Hi
At the moment I am doing 5 sets of 30 reps on tri`s, bi`s, back, chest shoulder. In between each set I do various sets of sit ups, then rest for 1 minute.
I would normally run or cycle for 5 to 10 min to warm up and then do 10 reps of all the above mentioned weights to warm muscle group up.
I would stay off weights the following day and do complete cardio or fat burning with a swim at the end.
As for my diet I have 2 sandwiches at lunch and a full meal in the evening. My meals vary in chicken, Steak, very little fried food really, potatoes, not a lot of veg, pasta, rice.
I think majority of the weight I carry is to do with the fact that I have to drink at least 5 litres of water, as when I do any form of training I dehydrate. Most days my urine is a very dark yellow and I am told this is a sign of dehydration so hence the mass fluid intake.
Is there anything you can do to speed your metabilism up as I also know I have a slow metabilism.
Thanks for your help

Are you using the same weights routine every time you train?
i.e. 5 x 30 reps on every body part each time you train....? How many times per week are you weight training?
The problem is always going to be diet when it comes to fat loss. You mention a slow metabolism. Eating smaller meals and more frequently will greatly aid your weight loss goal.
I have PM'd you with some info. :)

Hi Martin
I do weights about 3 times a week. as mad as it sounds I am very fit but for some reason I just cant shake the fat on the hips and oblique`s really.
I have tried a few suggested methods, such as long slow running, but because I dehydrate easily I have to drink lots and lots of fluid, which in turn I think may be too much fluid.
Maybe I have fluid retention problem!! lol
I have tried eating pleny but small through the day, but at work it doesnt really work that well due to the nature of my job.
On average a day I can loose upto 800 - 1000 calories, I dont know if this is high or low, I monitor the calories most days.
thanks for the advice and I will try the site you suggested and will catch u there later,
Allan

one element to consider here is your distribution of calories throughout the day.
You want to get the main bulk of calories in during the daytime and less in the evenings. This is often the opposite as people are at work during the days, their largest meal of the day is in the evening when they are their least active.
Split your meals into 5-6 regular ones, with the ammount tapering towards the end of the day.
Calories you dont burn, depending on their composition, can be easily converted into body fat. Especially if you have a general calorie deficit. Also avoid sugar, white breads, white rice and white pasta.
Any comments / Thoughts??

Thanks Richard,
Will give it a whirl, I do eat quite a bit white pasta and white rice, so will avoid this. Also I can see what you are pointing at with the eating methodology, that will be the hardest as I dont generally eat through the day but Im willing to try anything. Will start to keep a chart of what Im eating.
Thanks for the help,
Allan
