Honestly, how good is skipping?
Childhood antics & enjoyment aside...what are the benefits relating to the heart, muscle groups, calories burnt..to, how many times per minute would see one actually benefiting from this form of aerobic exercise?
Any thoughts please?

I am surprised that is what you meant. I am no authority on the subject, but I do know from the experience of taking aerobic classes that a variation on this childhood activity can be a good aerobic work - out. I enjoy participate in group aerobic step for a 50 minute time period twice a week. One of the activities we call ski - hops, we do them in with other moves and switch back to that movement on and off during the period of the class. Ski - Hops is a motion like skiing in place in a lunge motion alternating left / right. We do them fast for like 4 sets of 12, and then slow
for about the same. Slow is like one for every 2 beats of music, so it becomes a plyometric movement.
I suppose skipping would be similiar for aerobic conditioning, but for me, I don't think I would want anyone to see me skipping. It's like riding a moped, it's fun until someone see you doing it. It did take me a little while to get use to the idea of doing step aerobics as the class is mostly women. It turns out though it is not as easy as it may appear. The intensity of the movements are up to the participant. I use it to supplement my running. It's a great cardio work - out . . .

hi there im a boxer and i must say that skipping if done correctly can be one of the most effective cardio workouts around, in every training session i do i do 5, 3minute rounds on a speed rope with one minute shadow boxing in between, and trust me it is quite intense!

Having got back into jump ropes (cooler name than skipping, ha ha) through British Heart Foundation at the school where i worked it was not only a good laugh but very intense and worthwhile on the cardio front.
Incorporated it in my circuits and people always comment on its effectiveness.
