any other GAA players here?

for the uninitiated, GAA is the Gaelic Athletic Association, the governing body of the national sports of Ireland - gaelic football and hurling.

football is similar to aussie rules football, but with a round ball, rectangular pitch, less tackling, and two goalposts with a crossbar.

hurling is played on the same pitch, with a small (cricket ball sized) leather ball which you hit with a stick which is unique to hurling, but is a bit like a hockey stick or shinty stick. its the fastest field game in the world.
so anybody else got an interest in them?

im a player, and a physiology student who wants to introduce sports science to the GAA world!

I've never actually tried Gaelic football, but being a rugby fan I can appreciate both it and aussie rules football. Plus I've had many a good afternoon watching it while sinking guinness in the various Irish pubs in Manchester that I frequent! It's a really interesting sport.

I guess that's not much help on the sports science side. But we do have a few articles on rugby you could maybe adapt to it

Cheers

Mike :)

Hi Folks - I am re-visiting Peak Performance having been an avid reader some years ago when I was still a competitive athlete. I have Pbs as follows:
400: 49.7
800: 1.49.7
1500: 3.46.6
3000: 8.01.5
5000: 13.46.6
- all set over a 10-12 year period. I am now coaching and looking for the edge, that little extra we all search high and low for! Looking forward to reading the best the sporting and scientific world has to offer and unearthing a few gems!
