you said in your last post you had very little bodyfat?! Is it weight/fat or just need strenghtening of the midsection? If it's the latter, some planks, fitball work will help strenghten those muscles, and give a firmer midesction.

Show me girl, the primary way to reveal definition is to increase lean body mass (muscle) through high repetition weight training and/or circuit training with free weights. This should be done in conjunction with a sound aerobic training regimen. To find the appropriate level of effort, obtain a heart rate monitor and run/ski or walk in your training HR Zone(220 -your age X .75= Target Zone in bpm). You must reduce all non-essential fats to reveal muscular definition. Aerobic activity in your target zone is key. If the effort is too intense, in other words you are above your target zone then you are burning lean body mass. If you are below your target, then you are essentially wasting your time, if you are running for 30 minutes in yoiur zone, you are optimally burning fat. A sound nutritional plan is also an essential component to any healthy fitness regimen. have fun and enjoy the results!

Hi show me girl,

Sounds like you're very determined to work hard to get into the shape you want, good for you!!

Sometimes less can be more though. I have had clients who have previously trained and trained and trained. I altered what they were doing with a little discipline, a little advice and a little structure and they have really nailed the results they want.

I would advise you to keep a log for a week of all your activity and all you nutrition for a week or two.

If you want, send me an e-mail of your week and I'll send you back a couple of ideas. (1 rule - be honest!!)

Its difficult to know what the answer is without knowing what you do now. A bit of analysis could reveal just where you need to tweak your training!!

Good luck with it (unfortunately there's no quick fix or magic answer)

Show Me Girl,

I'm in a similar situation too! I have posted my exercise regimen under "What do the experts think" thread.

Since your last post, where you able to discover the mystery behind your predicament?

Hi!
Sit-ups and crunches are the best and most effective way to reduce the middle area! I run a lot and always carry a stomach - i have started doing sit-ups and in the space of 3 weeks shifted an inch or so of my waist and dropped to 12% bodyfat.

i do 100-150 crunches in sets of 25 every morning before breakfast - works for me:)

To find the appropriate level of effort, obtain a heart rate monitor and run/ski or walk in your training HR Zone(220 -your age X .75= Target Zone in bpm).

The formula is not accurate it works as an average but you don't know if you are average or not. Better to get a Max heart rate test done by someone who knows what they are talking about or doing it on feel. The intensity of effort can be guaged by how much you can talk, from paragraphs, sentences, words to grunts at the highest level not at all! There is one way of reducing body weight and that is to input less than you output. What you can then do is improve the definition/tone of the muscle. High intensity effort will not burn fat it will burn blood sugar but it will use up energy that increases the output(see above) I have heard it described as being the spark that lights the candle as the increase in metabolic rate as a result of intensive exercise means energy contiues to be used after exercise has stopped. Low intensity will burn fat but use energy at a slower rate so do it for longer but needs to be enough to get your pulse up, cyclists call this postmans pace and sometimes find it hard to go that slowly. You can choose what you prefer.
You could get your fat %age or weight measured etc to guage progress, there are also threads on core muscle exercises about and lots of stuff on the most effective exercise for core (abs and back)
Having said that I am an intersted cyclist with no professional qualification!
Good luck!
Chris
