Hi!
I'm vegetarian and to suppliment my diet and exercise schedule I drink soy whey protein. 25gms per day on light work out days and 50gms on weight training days. I weigh 58kg.
I notice that I feel bloated whenever I drink protein. Any idea why? I'm on a 2 week "break" from weight training..and since I dont consume that much protein these days, I feel less bloated.
Is this just my imagination or is there some basis to this observation?

i just wanted to make a note and ask a question.
first do u find that soy protein or whey protein is better? I have taken whey protein befor and have been satisfied with the results. However I have a new company sponsorship program that offers only soy protein, so I dont know if i should take the soy for free or spend the money of whey protein.
back on topic, take a look at what u are taking the supplement with. many people take the supplement with milk and that for sure will cause the fealing of bloating. also many chug them back with water, however even if you chuged back 500-1000ml of water within a few minutes you would feel bloated regardless of protein powder! A good alternative is mixing the poweder into foods, such as in the morning stir it into your cereal or something like that. hopefully it will help you to eliminate your bloating problem

Hi Scott!
I personally prefer Soy protein coz of taste and also it's "kinder" to my stomach!
I have my protein mixed with water & glutamine first thing in the morning. I dont feel bloated anymore coz I have actually cut down my intake to suit my body. From 4 table spoons I've reduced it to 2 table spoons.

dr sunshine

hi dr sunshine
I think that "bloated feeling" you have may be due to the brand of the protein as well as the type of the protein (i.e. soy protein... soy protein is actually "sit" in your stomach longer than whey protein).
i suggest you consume your protein drink throught out the day rather than the whole serving in one go, which should be able to minimise your "bloated feeling".
And back to your question, i think that it is not your imagination as whey protein/ soy protein can actually reduce your appretite and if you consume too much in one go it can actually make you feel full or even sick  i am just talking from my experience ..... and i don't think you want to know the details
anyway hope these answer your question

Energy drink is ok before a workout to maintain blood sugar and hydration but not surprised drinking protein before upsets you, best taken straight after I understand
