Want to become personal trainer and just had baby - lacking confidence

Hiya
I have just had a baby and it has made me take stock of my life and realise i do not want to do my current job anymore. i work in IT and although it pays well, it isn't what i want to to do with my life. I have always been fit and wanted to become a personal trainer but been scared.

I have now signed up to do the PT course through YMCA. is this a good course as there seem to be lots offered?

I am also lacking in confidence especially as I am not fit after having my baby.

I would just like some reassurance i think that this is something i can do....

The first part of the course is the Fitness instructor snd even though i have been to plenty of gyms over the years i have never worked in one, how best can i prepare apart from the studyt material??

Also, what is the best way for me to now get fit enough to become a PT?? i have started with some DVD's at home to break myself in gently as i haven't trained now for about a year....

The YMCA PT course is a good one that is recognised and is cheaper than others such as Premier which isnt much better if at all. The Gym Instructor part is generally quite easy as long as you have trained. If you know that a bicep curl trains the 'bicep' muscle and a more advanced one.... that leg curls train the hamstrings you should be ok. If you are not sure of the different muscles it may be good just to read up a bit on that. Other than that the course is very much 'taught to pass' so you should be ok.

PT is something that is hard to get started in and it may be a good idea to get work in a gym as a gym instructor first to build a client base.... if you can afford to take the pay cut that I imagine would be the case....

As for fitness, you dont neccessarily have to be fit to be a PT, depends on your 'PTing style'. Work yourself back into it slowly, you should learn on your course how to get into shape...... afterall it is what you will be teaching/instructing others to do.
