Hi,
I'm a 29 year old runner and I love running long distances. I also cycle and swim to prevent muscle imbalances and do strenght training as well. I've been wearing custom made orthotics for one year but now I'm in confusion about using them or not. I read an article which says that wearing orthotics weakens some muscles (it says that the orthotics do the job what muscles should do and so some muscles get weaker and weaker). It's also written that we loose our self perception by wearing orthotics. I wear them because of my fallen arches which results in overusing of my tendons around my ankles. I do a lot of exercises for my ankles and arch (like wobble board , picking marbles with toes, etc.) but I still fear of getting an injury if I stop wearing orthotics.
What could you suggest me about this issue? Many thanks.

I think it is not the right

I think it is not the right solution for these problems. It is a lazy approach. It is a temporary artificial support, instead of development of one's own body and one's own skills of movement. It may eventually lead to more weaknesses and problems as described in different sport articles and sports magazines.
