I've been coaching a group of multisport athletes (triathlon / duathlon) for a number of years and have recently been introduced to a technique of restoration post workout, called "flushing". Normally, at this time of year (base - build) the team will be feeling some sort of DOM's post hill or track session. However, if we carry out this "flushing" technique, no one seems to suffer with DOM's.
I can't find any papers on this technique at present and was woundering whether any coaches out there have?
The theory works on the muscular pump action, e.g. post running do a lunge type movement, hold for a couple of seconds then repeat on other leg. Whilst in the lunge postion (tension), you slow blood flow, and on release return it to normal or possible speeding it up, thus flushing the muscle group (theory).

Just checked EBSCO sports discus and could not find a thing on the theory.

I am under the impression this would be the same as in days of old when a heavy set was finished by doing a very light weight for a count of twenty or more as a back off set. It was thought to 'pump' nutrients back into the muscles'.

I don't think a pause at the bottom ROM would be conducive to a 'flush' of any sort.
