I was in dublin over the weekend to listen to the executive director of the IYCA Brian Grasso speak about youth conditioning. It was a great event to listen to a guy who has so extensively worked with youth training and feels that passionate about the develop of the area has set up the IYCA.

For those who are involved with coaching and training young athletes, the resources the IYCA have phenomenal. Because there was no text good enough to encompass all the aspects of youth training, the IYCA pulled some of the leading experts together and created their own text. This covers all the topics necessary to understand youth conditioning, maturation and the important differences between adult and youth training.

The IYCA aim is to assist in the evolution of the youth athletic/fitness industry by regulating the knowledge and skill of the individuals who work within it. I would recommend you have a look at the organisation and see what you can gain from it. The website is www.IYCA.org

Brian Grasso also has some great products from his personal site aimed at youth conditioning - www.developingathletics.com . The Knowledge is Power product is great.

Why would they pay me for my strong passion and believes in youth conditioning and long term development?

Drawing the attention to an organisation set up purely for development and education of those who work with youths can only be beneficial for those involved in youth training. I will challenge anyone who disagrees the need for such an organisation as youth training is more than a 'watered down' adult training programme.

I agree with Alex, too often the development of young athletes is cast aside and/or shunned in preference for adult development. This is primarily the result of lack of or poor education on the subject, the long standing notion that young athletes are just "mini-adults" and in some cases a general disregard for the many many factors that influence the development of the young athlete . The IYCA are doing a magnificient job in raising the awareness of the importance of youth conditioning and the more people that become aware of this the better.
