I have a problem with my abdominals or something related. The symptoms are as follows:
- Pain along the lower abdominals in line with the Hip. The pain is mostly focussed on the right hand side.

- Pain (on right hand side) feels deep inside rather than on the surface of abdominals.

- The problem is at times worse during sleep where the pain comes in spasms, strong enough to wake me at times.

- If i stand upright and tense abdominals i can feel the pain.

- I can't kick a football with my right foot with any power as this produces instant pain. My running is effected when i get tired.

To explain a bit further, i have been to the doctor. Had an ultrasound scan for a hernia or tear - none found. I've had manipulation physiotherapy and ultrasound treatment but both only provide temporary relief.

I have tried various stretching and altered my excercise routines. I have read about Hip Flexor injury and adductor strain etc, but these do not reflect the severity of my problem.

My main worry is that the pain is located deeper within the abdominal and even lying on my side seems to pull against something.

Is there any advice anyone can offer in addition to the typical advice given for abdominal strain? Thank you.

I would see a sports physio/sports medicine specialist as a general GP will not be able to help you. They may find the cause (Inbalances etc). It may be a hip flexor but would def try to seek appropriate help.

Very wise to see your GP as many different pathologies can appear this way. Provided there is none, there are many options

1. A strain/counterstrain problem between the psoas muscles, sometimes including GMX.

2. A Pubic symphasis subluxation pattern

3. Micro avulsion tear due to phosphate problems

4. Rectus Femoris/TFL weaknesses

5. Inguinal lymphatic issue.

The list goes on, you need to be a little more specific with your description of location and pain character

Thanks for your reply.

Pain is located in same area as the appendix. No significant swelling. The pain is bad after a football game but it's at its worst during/after a nights sleep when the area pulses with pain.

I've thought that the muscle & nerves may be damaged but nothing i've done (physio, rest and ultrasound included) seems to get rid of the sporadic pain.

I think the problem's affected my Adductors, if that makes sense, as i feel as if i'm pulling that side of my body more than the left. My adducters are now sore, right from the inside leg up through what feels like my hip. The reason i suspect that my abdominal injury is responsible is because i've never had problems with my adducters before.

I will see my GP for a second opinion but based on his initial assessment (which was quite brief) i wouldn't want to waste an appointment without feeling confident of a better outcome.

Mate there is a lot going on here and I personally don't believe this is the place to be discussing it. Take time away from the sport and rest it. Please get it thoroughly checked out. It may be nothing more than tear but pain in this area is not something that should be mucked with. It is better dealt with by people who can physically touch the area and feel what is present and order the tests required. I would strongly suggest getting an ultrasound of the area to confirm the exact extent of the problem.

i'd like to suggest two possibilities. like someone earlier said, it sould be a pulled hip flexor, and that might make pain in your abdomen too. it's also likely to be that you have something inflamed that is pusing on a nerve, or that you have damaged a nerve. i had nerve issues in my legs and you would swear it's a muscle tear because it feels similar. so either of those could be your problem, but i would definitely seek an opinion from another doctor if i were in your position

Hello mate, I appreciate it was a while ago you had your injury but i wondered if you ever found the cause or more importantly the treatment for your injury. I came across your case whilst searching the web as I appear to be suffering from exactly the same injury you sustained. I have had the injury now for 3 months and dispite total rest and lots of ibuprofen the injury gets no better. Numerous visits the doctor and still no closer to finding out the problem. Getting really hacked off. Im 35 now so my playing days are running out and ive put on almost a stone already as I am unable to take part in any sports including running or cycling as the pain is too much. Ive tried swimming but that just seems to make me more hungry! Any help would be much appreciated!

Just wondered if anybody

I've seen a sports physio and been referred to the hospital an dalthough this has been going on for almost a year, I'm stil lyet to get a scan, so I'm looking into private and trying to slef diagnose!

Any help much appreciated

Possibly Sacroiliac Joint ?

Hello there.

This may help, it may not .....

I suffered with a very similar (often quite severe) pain in my right abdominal area at the beginning of last year which came and went.

The Doctors eventually ended up referring me for a laparoscopy, but I decided not to go ahead as I really didn't want anyone 'poking about inside me' if I could help it.

Anyway, the pain eventually eased BUT not long after (in December last year), my sacroiliac joint on my right hand side 'went out' and I had to have it put back in place ....

I have since learnt that the sacroiliac joint can refer pain to the lower abdominal area and I often wonder if the abdominal pain I suffered was an indication of what was to come ??

Of course, there is no way of proving this - my Doctor swears blind that the sacroiliac joint can not move, yet the physio I saw definitely put something "back in place" as I was in agony in my lower back before he sorted me out.

The sacroiliac joint issue is a long debated one, but I guess it is something else for you to think about if all else fails ?!?!?!

I wish you luck because I know how painful and frustrating "body problems" that no one can diagnose can be !!!

Take care xx
