I remember sighting reference to recent research casting doubt on the benefit of the traditional advice of performing abdominal strengthening to reduce the risk of LBP - it could even have been on this site.
Can anyone help me source this, please?

Derek
The late Dr Mel Siff was always sceptical about this approach. Try searching google using Mel Siff and abdominals. Also Dr Stuart McGill, considered to be a world authority on the subject, believes the whole issue has been over simplified and its more down to muscle endurance rather than strength.
I have extracts on my website at fitness-programs-for-life.com/core_exercise_routines.html

Stuart McGills most recent book 'Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance' is very good text leading on a more applied approach from McGills earlier book 'Low Back Disorders.'
Siff as has a 'Supertraining' discussion group on Yahoo groups. You will find some good information about this topic here. There is also a website with a list of Siffs articles but cannot remember it. I will post it when I find it.
