Hi all. I'm having problems with both of my achilles tendons as a result of trying to do too much too soon. I used to be a top junior sprinter about eight years ago and I thought I would try to get back into it again, I'm 28 now.
I had been working out at the gym a lot and was in quite good shape but then I did my first track session. I did loads of drills to warm up but unfortunately the running on my toes seems to have damaged both tendons. I also strained my left soleus a little. At the time it was not too bad and I completed the full 400m reps session no problem. It's now six weeks later and I am still in pain walking.
I tried to ice both achilles every night during the first couple of weeks and then i started doing light stretching after having a bath. I have had physiotherapy and sports massage which hasn't made any real difference. The only thing that has relieved the discomfort has been acupuncture and chinese massage which I have once a week and eliminates the discomfort for a couple of days. It then comes back as bad as ever. I have enough mobility to cycle, row, cross-train etc but I have even stopped all this now for fear of making things worse.
I am now getting worried that in another six weeks I may still be no better. Does anyone have any advice on how I should be rehabilitating after six weeks. Thanks

Simon
