I was looking for some advice. According to my GP I have strained my achilles tendon in my right ankle and need to stop running for a week (minimum). It is REALLY sore in the mornings but by the evening it seems to warm up and loosen off. Anyone got any suggestions for speeding up the recovery time or alternative forms of excersise as I have already has a week out from training and am keen not to lose too much ground.

The best thing to do for an acl injury is just to rest. Too much activity can further injure your achilles. Make sure to eat well and have a balanced diet. One week with no training will not affect your performance substancially.

8) This is nothing more than a suggestion. There is no known man-made fibre as strong as your achilles tendon. If you have injured this tendon is any way-that is not bad-it is serious.
Humour the system-rest. The scenes get very ugly from here on in-if you injure it further.
Just a suggestion :D
Cheers

Prevention and injury minimisation are better than post traumatic injury recovery. If you think a week off may be a problem - try 6-8 weeks in plaster if the achilles ruptures, not to mention surgery and it's potential complications, and the long road through rehab to recovery after that. Probably a good idea to identify why the strain has occurred - technique, running/training surfaces, footwear, s&c of the leg etc.
p.s. I've gone through the recovery from archilles tear, trust me, prevention of it's occurence is a lot better.

Bik, be ready for a longer rest period than 1 week  , go see a good sports masseur and then get to see a Podiatrist and get your gait checked out, this should all help with the healing and your subsequent recovery
Hope this helps some,
Have a good un, cheers John Murphy
