I'm looking for exercises that can imporve my knee performance. Right now I'm using 2 pound wights around my ankle when I do the exercise.
I had my surgery last month and I'm still limping. It also hurts a lot when
I'm sitting for an hour and t hen start to walk.

I had my ACL reconstructed in November last year and still having trouble with rehab up untill now. I had another injury to my knee a month and a half ago which i thought the worst but wasn't, my doc gave me this awsome knee exercise which is so easy and logical, most people have weaker mucles on the inside their knees than the out side so sit down, turn your knee out like right out and lock it out as hard as you can and lift it off the ground about 10 cm 10reps for 10secs each day, within a month i have got most my motion back and am nearly able to jog on it which i think is very cool. Hope this helps.

Don't put extra strain on it if it can't deal with your initial weight, this will only cause extra injury, build up to it.

I'm with the other replies, give it time. Follow your doctor's recommendations. You may want to bag the weights as it could be more trouble than their worth. The isometric exercise one reply mentioned would be helpful. Try not to sit for long periods of time. I am sure your doctor said to keep moving. If you have to sit like for your job, get up every 45 minutes and move around for a little while perhaps 10 minutes.
I wish you well . . .

Hi everyone- ive just joined!
I had ACL reconstruction (hamstring graft-not sure what everyone else had) and Medial Meniscus repair in June after rupturing it in March. I did it at a gymnastics competition doing a full twisting straight back somersault (not really the best time because I was only on my second piece so couldn't complete the comp :( ) I've just been told by my physio that I can start training again (in gym) but have to do it gradually. I also do swimming and was allowed to do this 6 weeks after the op- found it helped a lot because its not impact and helps with mobility. I think the key to recovering from this injury is to be patient!! I absolutely love doing gymnastics and have found it really hard not being able to do it (its been 7 months!) but if I had tried to do it too soon after the op I'd just be back where I was. Isabel-I had the same problem in terms of sitting for long periods of time. What I did was put my leg up on a chair (straight) for 5 mins or so and then take it off so its bent- worked for me. You also really shouldn't use weights round your ankle because it puts extra strain on the knee joint. What I did was put the weights round my thigh (2 ankle weights attatched to one another) that way there's no extra weight on the lower leg putting a strain on the knee.

Hi everyone,

14 weeks ago I injured my left knee playing at a high level in basketball and I thought I had just strained it so I stayed away from basketball for a couple of weeks. I thought It would have gotten better but it was still the same. So I decided that I needed to do something about it. I decided to get an bone scan and a MRI scan. It was just last week on Wednesday that I got told that there is a big tear in my meniscus and there is a complete tear in my anterior cruciate ligament an unless I want to continue playing basketball I need a knee re-construction. Im really upset but I have decided to go ahead with the operation. The operation will take place on the 4th of December and im really scared. Are there any exercises that I could do to strengthen my knee before the operation?
And how many weeks does it take unitl I will be able to walk normally again?

Thanks guys. :)
