Looking for a bit of advice here,I received results of my MRI today and found out i have ruptured my ACL,grade 1 damage of MCL and torn my medial meniscus. I did this mid August playing football and since then have been having weekly physio, bike work, leg presses and step ups etc as well as doing work on my own at the gym.
The reason for my dilema is that my consultant seems to think i should continue my physio etc and return to see her in Feb,by which time she hopes my leg will be stronger, hamstrings etc and i'll be running again, therefore not requiring any surgery. I'm no expert on this subject but i feel that my knee has sustained a pretty bad injury and it'll take more than time to sort this out.
Should i be looking for a 2nd opinion or does her diagnosis sound correct?
Many thanks
Bobby

Knee Injury

Hi Bobby
My first consultant took me in for surgery. When I woke up I was told it was still partly in tact and I returned to sport. Within 10 minutes of returning my knee went again.
When you have sustained such a serious injury you need it repaired and you dont want to be waiting months and months.
When famous sports people are injured they dont wait months to try and rehab it, they get it reconstructed as quickly as possible.
A small amount of people can function without an ACL - but do you really want to be participating in sport with it missing?
Personally I would not want to wait until Feb - I want want to be on a waiting list ASAP to get it reconstructed
Regards
Michael
ACL Rupture

I ruptured my ACL in September 2009 - had MRI which confirmed complete rupture in October, had 6 weeks of physio - standard practice - but attended an ACL clinic weekly between Dec and March 2010 when I finally had my operation.
I had hamstring graft and have found rehab so far very good - this is die to the fact that my gluts, hamstrings and abs have worked to be in a good condition prior to my op. I was off crutches in 10 days and cycling in under 2 weeks.
If you are a sports person who wants to return to competitive sport then surgery is the only option however, prehab is essential to good recover.
Don't know if you've had anything yet but good luck if you are recovering from op.
i snapped my cruciate
28th Jul '10, 1:30pm
i snapped my cruciate ligament in my left knee last october whilst lifting weights. i turned around with the weights still lifted and when i turned my body turned but my foot was still pointing in the same direction and i heard a little popping sound and then my leg just went. i tried to stand up but every time i tried standind on it it went straight away. i went a full weekend before i went to the hospital thinking i had just sprained it. a week later i had keyhole surgery and found out i had snapped my cruciate ligament so they had to remove the bits that were snapped because some of my ligament was stuck between my knee cap. im still waiting to have some more surgery on my knee but its still unstable. and to top things off 5 weeks ago i snapped my right ankle which trust me doesnt make snapped ligaments any better to live with.
