in easter of 2002 i managed 2 fall off a 2m rock climbin wall and my ankle got caught in the mats as i fell.i tore the ligaments in my ankle and damaged the tendons.i had physio 2 try and strengthen the ankle once it was recovered.wheneva i perform everyday tasks such as jumpin over a fence or walking down the stairs if i land on the ankle heavily it twists and sprains.the physio said this is due 2 weakness in my ankle.as i am training i am strappin the ankle every session 2 prevent re-injury but it is a pain.does anyone kno any good exercises 2 help strengthen the ankle. at the moment i am spraining it about once a month.
thanx heather

I have torn ligaments in both ankles and the best exercise tip I recieved was from a doctor in the casualty ward of the local hospital.
Balance yourself on the injuried ankle until comfortable..................then close your eyes..............fight to maintain your balance.
The stretching of the ankle will help strengthen the ankle........
trust me this works fantastic... and you may look daft.

Heather, the reason why your ankle will not heal is that you have seperated fascia that continues to cause pain with pressure on activity. It can be healed however you have to find the right person to do so. A technique called MyoFascial Disruption Technique can heal your ankle.

Your reply to heathers problems was excellent. i have two soccer players aged20 out wiyh ankle injuries constantly. strengthening seems the route tofollow. Can you give me advice on where to get the details of the treatment suggersted to Heather

Wobble exercises as already mentioned in this thread. and described further in Dr Gran's reply to Ankle injury above, are really essential in rehabilitation of any ankle injury.

Hey there knowledgeable people
I did a number on my ancle this last week. I cant discribe it well though. Imagine when you roll your ancle, it collapses to the inside. Ok, now imagine if it rolls the other way to the outside. I was told it wasnt supposed to do that without breaking the fibula, so i guess i lucked out, or the X ray was wrong. Either way i have very little mobilty, and usually low levels of pain. As long as the wieght it strait up and down, and their is zero ligament strain, i can barely feel it (except for swelling pressure).

The problem is I am quite concerned about recovery, I have been icing it, and putting a a localized anitinflamitory cream. The lack of mobility has prevented me from attempting any sort of excersize.

The other problem is I am planning to attened a world event this summer, and need not only to be healed by then, but be training ASAP. I know this may be unrealistic :( , but mabey someone could help me out with any advice on what to do, or not to do. Anything that might help would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thank you so much!!!!!

The reason why the ankle will not heal is that there is a seperation of the fascia from the tendon to the bone or in the ligament. By getting the fascia back the pain and instability will IMMEDIATLEY go away. You can contact me at

You can be training ASAP by getting your ankle treated properly. Again most if not all sprained ankles are caused by a disruption of the fascial at the area of damage. By getting this fascia back to its origion the pain goes away, the instability goes away and the strength returns.
