I am very glad that you have found someone to take care of your back. The soft tissue work I allude to, is anything from body massage to sport massage, myofacial work (which I understand is quite big in the states, it is now catching on over here), Met's or muscle energy techniques, NMT, deep tissue work and anything and all things in between, I believe massage is massage, I will use all or any of these techniques when working with soft tissue. I teach my students at college not to label things to much but to rely on what they can feel. I like to work the line of pull or line of strain of a muscle or movement and I treat the body as a whole unit. By this I mean I would work from the feet up the peroneals, biceps femoris into the glutes onto the quadratus laborum up the spinal erectors. (this is just an example)I also like to do alot of adductor work with people with "back ache" I would include stretching and a strengthen regime within my treatment programme. I am very hands on and due to deep tissue work my treatments can sometimes be quite painfull  I hope this has been of some help to you and not totally confusing  I believe that I have a fairly unique way of treating people and only wish I could explain it better, then I would write a book and retire  take it easy John Murphy
