Hello there. I am sorry to say that I have to join your forum. On Monday 29th June i fell down and broke my fib and tib, Hospital followed with not 1 or 2 ops but a final 3rd op at the end of the week to put in plate and screws. Now at home with plaster from below knee to toes. I run a bed and breakfast on 4 floors, bummer.
Please could some one reassure me that the tremendous tightening feeling of blood rushing to the foot and filling up the plaster is normal whenever I stand up, and pins and needles, and some numbness in the toes. I sometimes feel that my leg will swell so much the plaster will burst.
Also I have been told to try and put weight on it,but this is proving very painful, and so I'm not trying very hard.
As for pain killers, I have been given paracetamol and Ibupfrofen.
Please help me...Mandi

Mandi, don't worry

Hi Mandi,
I broke my ankle at football on the 5th of June, I was operated on the next day and then they put in a cast on the Monday morning and I was sent home. It is now the 19th of July and I have my cast off and I've been told to put my full weight on it. The feeling you have described is completely normal as long as it goes away once you elevate your foot? then there is no need to worry. I think it must come down to how often you manage to stand up because when I first got my cast on, the first morning I woke up I got up on my crutches to go to the toilet and the feeling of the blood rushing to my toes was excruciating, this eased over a few days and after about 2 weeks was still there but easily bearable. I was not allowed to put any weight on my foot at all when the cast was on so I would just check that one with your'e doctor if its painful. Hope that helps.

Dear Paul, thank you so much for your comments. It is so comforting to know that there are people out there who know what you are going through. How is your foot now, can you walk on it yet,are you going to physio....
