I experience at least one calf muscle pull a year in both calves. This is the 3rd year now. I am a mid distance runner and I warm up. I am 55 years old and nothing else seems to break on me. The latest happened 100 meters into a race. I get twinges in the calves even after a 10 day taper. Any suggestions on taking better care of them or prevention? Thanks.

first and foremost have you any gait problems?
Stretching and massage to break down any scar fibrous tissue and increase flexability if that's whats required.
Nutrition and hydration.
Over training? are you breaking down at the same time each season?
Hope this helps some, cheers John Murphy

Overtraining is probably right on. I climbed a 14,000 foot mountain 4 days before as fast as possible. I have a heart rate monitor now for overtraining and I do get these injuries towards the end of the racing season. Will look into massage. Thanks.
