I know these things often take ages to heal, but does anybody know how best to treat a groin strain. I thought I had fixed it hree times now and the first time in action each time it has gone again!

Hi,
I had this same problem last year and the only way it would heal was to stop running for a couple of weeks and do non-impact training. Once it healed I started out with short runs and worked my way back to my normal training.

I strained my groin last year during the volleyball season and I was out for 1 month . Now I can't stretch much which is hard because I play goalie in floor hockey but , when I do I can feel it . So then I have to stop for a few days .

Adequate stretching?

How are you stretching?

There are long and short adductors that have to be stretched differently, maybe you are missing some stretches or are not doing correct stretching.

Speak with a PT, one session should enable them to assess your stretches and check whether you need a more stringent assessment by a physio.

Failing that try yoga or pilates for a while - a change is as good as a rest

You likely have a biomechanical fault somewhere that needs to be assessed. Could be a million miles away from your groin.

Frequent groin strains are often a result of a relative weakness in the glute med. There is a thread on this forum on how to improve strength in this area :)

Alot of repeaded groin strains are due to poor core stability especially in men so working on this using a gym ball or getting exercises from a physio can realyl help and prevent it comming back
