Hi all, last year I ran the London marathon which absolutely battered my knees. As a result I needed physio on both knees for about 3/4 months. During this period of ‘rehabilitation’ I was swimming fairly regularly, occasionally playing football and doing the exercises recommended to me by the physiotherapist. I thought I’d made a complete recovery until about 2 months into the season when my right knee just stiffened up and it became awkward to walk. It feels as if I’ve lost all flexibility and agility in my legs and if someone asked me to change direction quickly my knees will snap off. To make things worse I seem to get cramp a lot in the affected knee. Very strange and highly frustrating.

Anyway, I went to a Doctor and she put me on a course of anti-inflammatory tablets, which did nothing, so I went back and have now been referred to an Orthopaedic consultant who I am seeing tomorrow. The problem is I don’t want to have any surgery, but feel this is the only option. If anyone has any advice or has experienced anything similar then please do get in touch.

Thanks all – sorry it’s a bit long.

leg problems

From international sports I have played, and also hiking / running through mountains I have had similar problems and after. Four things I would recommend:

Go see a good chiropractor, they are the best for legs and body (Osteopaths for the back, and physiotherapists for massage)
They will tell you how the body reacts to injuries, which is why one injury affects the entire body

They will straighten your entire body out, cos one problem affects the entire body, even within a day

Reverse your game plan - ie nstead of starting with a bang, build up - your chiropractor will help

Running down the sides of mountains from rock to rock I had many cramps, sessures and pain in my upper leg muscles, knees, and muscle that comes front the front of knee cap at the bottom of knee cap. I went to the gym and slowly built those muscles up at the same time as above. It worked, I can now do 25km walk and run, up and down 4 peaks within 4 hours and feel fine
