Hello my name is Matt, I am 19. I hurt myself lower back/ hip about 9 months ago. Two seperate accidents occured. First I fell straight on my sacrum from about 6-7 feet in the air playing basketball. The pain lasted for about two weeks and went away. About a month later I was squatting weight. It was not that heavy, I could rep it out. I all of a sudden felt this pain in my lower back(sacrum area) It was not debilitating I just thought it was a pulled muscle. Well the nagging pain never went away and can still bother me to this day. Had mri it showed minor disc bulge which I hear it quite normal in athletes. X-ray negative. Docs said it looked good and will get better with time. My pain is isolated to my left side of my lower back area. It seems to be influenced by movement of my left leg. I can feel great some days and others not. I can bend over good, run and jump. Side to side movement is a no no, it will bring back pain.Super tight hamstrings, and my left buttock/hip area tighten up alote. Any idea on what this could be. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt,

The problem with pain/injuries in this area is that they can be caused by numerous factors, so it would be hard for anyone to give you a good diagnosis without directly physically examining you, looking at your gait, the different tensions of your muscle groups etc.

Was the doctor that you saw a sports doctor? I would be looking for a doctor with experience in sports injuries, or if the first one that you saw did have this experience, get a second opinion and possibly get a referral to either a physiotherapist, podiatrist or whatever specialist they deem (if necessary) appropriate. It certainly sounds like you have issues that could be fixed or at least alleviated by undertaking a stretching and core strengthening program but I am not a health professional or a qualified physical trainer, so I cant give you much beyond what I have suggested.

sounds like it could be tight hip flexors, weak glutes, tight ham strings.try hip flexor and quad stretchs then single leg toe touches to activate and strenghten the glutes.no ham string or quad exercises ,no leg press work the glutes! also try the "sun salutation".
