hi, i'm a third year sports therapy degree student about to start trials for my dissertation looking into the effect of massage on mood state and wondered if anyone has any views or personal experiences which may be usefull. i'm hoping to put a section into my project about real life cases, not just clinical tests!

Mood state

Cleints mood states can be manipulated to a certain degree whilst doing treatments, by altering your treatment methods ie slower faster etc when applied to different stages of your treatment pre and inter event. i.e. you may want to calm a hyper client down or on the other hand you may need to bring a client up. Due to endorphin release clients can become elated after a treatment and then suddenly crash out a sleep, so in answer to your question can massage alter moods, most definatly. :D

Cheers John Murphy.

As a competing athlete I generally make use of a sports massage at least once a month. After a session I find that the comments made about the general state of wear and tear on my legs really useful. A "good" report helps motivate and gives training a buzz - a "negative" comment will help me to re-organise my training schedule. In terms of "moods" I usually feel more confident and ready to train harder (and longer) after a positive massage session.
