Hi all, very nice to find so many people interested in helping someone in need.
I'm looking for some insight. I've been doing body weight exercises every day for the past 18 months which included many different types of pushups. My workout has not changed much, accept for the amount of reps I do.

Suddenly during a set of pushups my right pectoral (upper) felt a stinging pain. The pain was followed quickly with a more benign tightness in the chest which radiated out to the shoulder and lasted about 48 hrs. The next day I noticed a small amount of bruising the front of my shoulder. I took 2 weeks off and tried my workout again. I started slow and everything went OK the first go around. However, after another day or two when I stepped it up a little, I aggrivated/reinjured the problemed area.

I still don't know what I did. A strain? pull? A small muscle tear? tendonitis? What does it sound like?

What suggestions do people have (i.e. how long to rest? What supplements to use (glucosamine? glutamine?), reconditioning exercises and when to start them? Stretches? Ice?)

My goal here is of course to avoid continued loose of strength and heal asap.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice that is given!

-Josh

probably a shoulder injury, and doing too much repetitive movement. Better go see a doc or therapist.

Thanks for the advice marse, but I don't understand how it could be a shoulder injury when the pain is localized mostly in my chest? I've seen pictures of people who've severely torn their pectorals with extreme weight and they get bruizing in their shoulders as well.

Also, what sort of doc is an expert in soft tissue (muscle/tendon) injuries? What type of specialist should I see, and what sort of help would they be able to lend (other than recommending PT)? Is and MRI warranted? If so, what do they cost (as of now have not health insurance)?

Thanks again!

Had a kinda partial pec -minor tear "feel" about it.

Would kinda account for locatilty of pain and bruising. HArd to advice without seeing it.

A good musculo-skeletel physio/physial therapist should be able to sort it out.
