Rotator Cuff Injury

Cosmic,
Sorry, babe, I feel for you.
Suffered a shoulder injury about 4 years ago, thought it healed but then suffered recurring pain every time I overused my shoulder. Orthopedist diagnosed as rotator cuff tendonitis, sent me off to PT for months. Did my PT religiously, but still continued to get pain when I worked the joint.
Finally laid off all upper body workouts using my shoulder (which were practically every exercise you can think of!) for six months. Have only now begun rebuilding strength in those muscles, slowly and cautiously, careful to immediately stop workout whenever I feel the pain that has become so familiar.
Knock on wood, so far so good. My advice to you: don't try to "work through" the pain like I did for so long! Listen to your body!!!
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress...

What injury did you sustain Cosmic and how?
There may be some exercises that may be benificial for you to strengthen rotators in a safe and effective manner.

Don't actually remember how I did it? It seemed so minor at the time! Maybe the dog pulled on the lead at an awkward moment or I twisted taking off jumper.

hi cosmic
like Sam says you should really go and see someone about the injury, swimming is good, but do not work at pain level, you could do more damage, but get it checked out first

I would be careful of swimming due to the excessive internal rotation of the shoulder. This can cause impingement from greater tubercle of hte head of the humerous rubbing the acromion therefore decreasing the space between the two.
Muscle weakness may also cause impingement. Swimming may cause further muscle waekness of the external rotators of the shoulder. Speak to a professional before swimming.

Cosmic,
Good advice by all - get to a Dr. and have him do an MRI to find out exactly what is going on with your shoulder.
My story - same type of pain - couldn't train or teach, as I couldn't lift my arm more than 1/4 way up. Went to Ortho and had them do an MRI - diagnosis - Rotator Cuff Tendonitis. They wanted to do surgery - 9-12 month recovery period.
I told hubby "no way, they're not cutting me open, I'll try anything else first". Researched and found a reputable accupuncturist. After the 1st treatment was able to lift my arm more than 1/2 way up. After the 3rd, and my last, treatment - pain completely gone. That was 3 years ago.
Everyone responds to accupunture differently (some may need more treatments, some less). It may be something you want to check into.

Have you had any massage *deep tissue or medical* to help with your shoulder? I have had similar problems with my shoulder in the past and was able to correct it in just a few weeks .. losing no training time at all.. and no PT either...
Let me know if I can help at all..
