Since an auto accident several years ago I have had a continuing problem with muscle spasms in my Rhomboids. I am a fit athlete who has been weight lifting for 25 years and practicing martial arts for the past 10 years. The spasms are seriously affecting not only my physical activities but work and down time as well. I have received prescription medication, physiotherapy, massage therapy and acupuncture as treatment modalities. Currently the most effective treatment is acupuncture but it requires 3-4 visits to remediate the problem and all these treatment modalities are draining on the pocket book. On the recommendation of my acupuncturist I have purchased a TENS, Muscle Stimulation and Microcurrent medical equipment from Mettler but I havenât received it yet. EMS is supposed to be good for muscle spasm so hopefully some early intervention will be the answer. I have two questions for you, firstly, do you have any recommendations for rhomboid specific exercises as I think strengthening my rhomboids is the first step to a long term plan for dealing with this situation. Secondly, have you in your experience ever had any diagnostic experience with EMS and just how successful it is in treating this type of situation. Some personal data if this is helpful, I am 45 years old, am fit and weigh 227 lbs.

Update on Treatment of Spastic Rhomboids

To update everyone I've had my EMS equipment for about 4 days now. I am happy to say that the back spasm is no longer an issue and I can sleep again. The machine was easy to use with preset programs or full manual control. A physiotherapist contact sent me a list of reference texts on EMS so I think I will buy one simply to fully understand this technology. It will be interesting to see if over the long haul if treatment can retrain muscles and keep spasms at bay. :D
