I have arthroscopic surgery for my right hip in two weeks (labral tearing, osteophyte, early osteoarthritis). This long term hip problem has also caused some facet joint issues. Coincidentally, I'm buying a new car.

People (e.g., chiropracters) are pushing me to get an automatic transmission, as "they're better for low back issues." I've always driven a manual--when I"ve rented automatics I find my right hip gets sore, because of riding the brake in city traffic.

I'm strongly inclined to go with my gut (i.e., manual), but wondered what other people's experience might be.

Thanks in advance,

Jon
