Hi guys

Have a female client, who had a slight sprain on her right ankle about 8 weeks ago. Coloured up slightly and was fairly swollen.
Now whenever she runs (only about 2 times a week on avg for 20mins) it swells back up again. Not a major amount, but enough to notice and give a feeling of weakness.

Anyone have ideas as to why this might be happening so long aftetr the initial cause?

Cheers

Hey Mark wouldn't like to speculate on a clinical impression especially given the details are kinda sketchy.

Some food for thought...

residual swelling may persist with associated capsular tearing alongside ligamentous damage at the time of injury depends on factors such as which lig, degree of damage.

Minimal amounts of swelling may well result in muscle inhibition and potentially atrophy over a given period of time.

Any further thoughts anyone.....

Thanks

It certainly doesnt stop her from running, although she sayd that she's wary that it has a feeling of it could give way if she goes over on it slightly.
She wears heels or totally flat shoes to work which I've said doesnt help the matter!
Was going to do some friction massage work on the ATFL tomorrow...
