I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of problem this could be. Last week I played football and kicked the ball hard midway through the game and my thigh muscle really hurt as I kicked it. The next day it felt fine to walk on the only pain being if I pressed the area of the thigh that hurt (midway down the thigh and slightly towards inside of leg). I rested it all week and then tried it out in the gym a couple of nights ago and it felt fine, I did a good 45 mins on cardio machines and felt no pain whatsoever so thought I would try it out at football this week. Took one kick of the ball and the pain came straight back.

Obviously I am now going to rest it for longer but I was wondering if anyone knew what this could be as I feel that if I had pulled the muscle then gym CV work should have hurt and not just kicking the ball.

Thanks,

Rich

Did you sort this? It may be the start of a slight tear - i did it at a very young age, and i think it can be avoided by basic thigh stretches (stand on one leg, pull foot up behind leg to stretch thigh). I may be wrong, but it struck a chord from when i did it more years ago than i care to admit!

Yeah it seems to have sorted itself out with a bit of a rest and then thorough warm ups before I did any exercise.

Started getting my fitness back now from playing football and squash regularly so hopefully it shouldnt recur

Rick, did you by any chance get hit on that muscle? If so, I'd encourage you to check with a sports ortho. My son got a knee in his thigh in a soccer game, no big deal, right? He thought it was just a bad bruise so he iced it a little, made sure to stretch out good, then a few days later he kicked a routine long ball in a game and practically had to crawl off the field. That second injury caused him to end up with a pretty bad tear, resulting in no sports for 3 months and still at risk for re-injury for another 3-6 months. It's not just the kicking motion but the resistance of hitting the ball, even lightly, that should be avoided, until ensuring you're ready. Just to give you an idea, my son's treatment was the ice on & off routine, plus ultrasound treatments & physical therapy 3x a week for 5 weeks, plus home therapy & exercises on the other days and continuing 3x a week after the office therapy stopped. He seems fine now.

Please please please Rickp101 tell me how you got over this, I am suffering from this for approx 10 days, thought I was good to go at practice and it is in pain again, I iced the first two days after I first noticed it, did small stretching for a couple of days, strechted it out more and more over the next 4 days. It was feeling great.

I go to practice, do a warm up, stretch, run 2 miles, stretch some more, start the skills drills, doing lace kicks and whamo the pain is back, all the massaging in the world won't releave it. It is pissing me off, as I don't want to miss any time away from playing / practicing but I don't want to end up tearing a quad and missing a couple of months.

What was it, and how did it heal for you, please advise.

quad pain after kicking soccer ball?

I have been dealing with the exact same thing for about 3 months. Came back from an ankle injury, and in the second practice my quad started hurting so much after kicking that I could barely walk on it for days. I rested it, and it felt so much better with ice and heat until I kicked the soccer ball again a week later. Just running I am fine. I even gave it a 3 week break, hoping it could heal if it was a bad injury...came to another practice and now I'm in so much pain and I really want to play! coming back from an injury and then getting injured again on the other leg is no fun.... Please tell me how you healed! thanks

Please help me i am
