Hello,

I can run 100m in about 13 sec. This without any training.
How much do you think I can improve with training?

Thank you,
Paul.

impossible to say,

one thing is sure is that you will get quicker with training, but how much quicker depends on a whole number of factors......

What age Paul ?
For U/13 that is good. )
If you want to progress as a sprinter then join a club, they will give you variety & specialised coaching for your chosen discipline & you will meet & train with others of similar ability.

Regards,

Max. ;-)

the progress curve is not linear. meaning that you cannot expect to make improvements at the same rate as you are now attaining as you progress through your career. your progress flattens out as you near your maximum. this forms a parabola having a quadratic equation as it's function. a sprinter has his/her peak at 25-31 so you have some time. ( just looking quickly at the best times , knowing that most have used steroids to prolong the curve or stretch the height ) .

although that is a respectable time, it is more impressive to have a youngster reach college/university age and STILL have a decent time. This is through avoiding injuries and other distractions. For that reason, i am quite impressed by the young man who is in university posting some good times.

When i was in grade 8, i ran the 100m against two people who ran it in under 12 seconds. Paul did it in 11.8 and Chris hit 11.5 . Disregarding the errors and bias of the timers, both still are respectable times. Neither were able to get near those times when they were in high school and certainly not in university. Injuries, distractions: two hobgoblins of future success.

Work on your start. find a coach.

just for interests sake, how many strides does it take you to hit 40 meters and then how many strides to go from the 40 m to the 100 meter finish line.?

i agree a lot with what you said.
talent wanes .
as i have buddies who used to run with me, but slowly dropped out due to bad lifestyle.
in my perspective, a good lfiestyle nad the willingess to work hard and possibly when in a bad conditino, have the resilience are the facttors creating a good athlete.
but all would be said.
nothing is definite for ever.

realistically, using natural training 5-15% is all the gain you can expect to make with years of training and nutrition, but it all depends on your commitment.

i agree with most of what has been said and would add that at this stage you need to enjoy the sport mare than focus on specifics, what is sure is that you will improve with a group and coach
