I have a 12yr old boy who is playing soccer. His eating habits are terrible. I was thinking of giving him free form amino acids. Is this a good idea?

At 12 years of age don't give him anything. They wont drastically change his performance. On the flip side, it may also implant psychologically that he needs to take something to perform, not a good start to a sporting career.

Either way, a poor diet is going to mean high risk of injury, decreased performance, slowed recovery time and high risk of illness.

If you want to help his performance, change his dietary habbits, he will need them if he wants to be an elite sportsman let alone be healthy
