just before christmas break at the end of cross country i finally broke 5 minutes with a 4:52.26. since then i havn't been able to do it. over the holidays i fractured my left ankle, one that had already been broken twice before. so this kept me from doing my daily runs. my weekly mileage was about 70 or 80 miles per week. since then, the closest that i have come to my previous time is 5:09.14. i've gotten this exact time at the past 3 track meets, down to the millesecond. i dont know how it happens but ive seemed to hit a plateau. ive talked to my track coach and he said to decrease my mileage by about 15 or 20 miles and just increase the intensity. ive done this but nothing seems to be happening. there's one more meet on thursday and then districts the week after. will i be able to reach my goal by districts? :?: :?: :?:

i've been training on the decreaed mileage for about a week and a half and i increased the intensity for workouts from like when we do speed workouts i went from an easy 400(67 or 68) to about a 54. the change was about this much on all of my workouts.
X/C TRAINING

I would err on the side of caution. I still think that this is far too much mileage for your age.
When racing X/C time is relatively unimportant shock , its beating your opponents that matters. P
Your races seem to be very short, a normal U.K. X/C race is 6+ miles, are you still at school?
Concentrate on quality runs at the expense of miles, one long run a week should be plenty & take plenty rest days.

P.S. If time is so important then track work is essential. wink
