i've always had trouble running, but for my age (24) and height and weight i should be doing 2 miles in 13/14 minutes, i run it in 15/16 and that's trying my hardest.

i dont know what im doing wrong i run often and push it, but the gains are minimal to nothing, and i been running for years now. don't think its my form, but i do lose breath quickly. any tips or training plans to overcome this?

someone told me strides after a mild run is the way to go...what do you all think?

I was once presented to me that in order to run faster, you must simply run faster. I did not immediately understand this concept, although I did become enlightened. To increase speed over a 3k distance you must progressively train your muscles run faster over a shorter distance. Start with 50 meter sprints, perhaps 10X50 with a short rest period, and gradually work your way into longer interval distances. Make certain you have made a complete recovery between efforts, if you are to weary to sprint you are no longer doing speed work. When you have sucessfully completed the 10 reps. in a session increase the distance in the next session and go at it again. I realize that there is a tremendous difference between 3k and 50 meters but if you are consistent and progressive you will in no time be running 400 meters at the past 50 meter pace. Keep at it and good luck.
