.ok so this summer im going on a week long cruise to the carribean(wahoo) but while im gone i wont be able to run because there's no track on the ship. they do have a treadmill but running on a treadmill is hell on my ankle ever since it's second break and i wont be able to go more than a few minutes at a time. i dont not want to run because cross country starts like the 2nd week of school in august and my cruise is the beginning of july. if i take a week off of training then i would lose so much endurance and i dont want to have to go back through gaining that back. how do i train while gone? i could do short intrevals on the treadmill but i dont know if that would benefit me at all...please respond!

After reading your post its cool your on a criuse nice holiday eh. but i was under the impression that if your fitness is good now :- then 30 mins a day on the treadmill wont hurt your fitness to much. I am not a runner but Was thinking of article i read last year out of one of my books and said that its hard to get fit but a weeks hol suldnt effect it to much as long as you do the 30 mins or something before breakfast but as i dont run dont quote me on that maybe some more feed back may help from runners.

A week off won't hurt you, so either don't worry about it and enjoy your hol, or cancel it and book another hol where you can train.
Personally I'd hate to be confined to a boat 24hrs a day, but each to their own.

A week off training is not too serious for endurance. It is far more serious for power and speed events.
Assuming you have a good endurance base already, a week without training should not decrease your endurance by more than 5%. But there are solutions to your problem.
Do not think of it as a week off training and a loss of fitness. For the two weeks prior to your hols increase your training in both intensity and duration and have a really hard couple of weeks training. Then you do not have a week off - you have a recovery week, so that your body will be able to build itself up to cope with the increased demand you made on it. After this you should be raring to go with an increased training load and better perfomances next season.
Think positive and gain the benefits.

If you still want to train why not try some cross training? If the ship has a gym on board try a circuit that includes short bursts of running on the treadmill and high rep, low resistance weight exercises. You could also incorporate a rower or bike.
You could also use the week to do a bit of strength and speed work by doing speed intervals on the treadmill.
Whateva you decide to do hope you have a tops holiday. :)

Agree with jamd. Think of it as a week of non-impact training - a change is as good as a rest. If they have treadmills then they should have rowers, steppers etc - all good for making you sweat and your CV system work, although not running specific. But if your running fitness is good already, then a week of doing other endurance work will not harm it too much. You may find it has benefits when you get back and you are feeling a lot better when you get back to pounding dirt.
Have a nice cruise!
