many reasons cause the person to lose a race... were u too nervous?
or was the pposition better?
ask urslef questions to tease out the true factor for failure and will help you next time.
but always remember, a race, is a race...
every race is a new beginning.
calibre and determination is not enough,
top athletes also ahve the resilience and the capacity to accept strenuous workouts and failure.

if i lost my 400m race, then my trainer would train me harder, but would never allow me to back off the last moment.
dun walk away when sth was meant to be done by you

I think your being very hard on yourself.
All i can say is that if everyone gave up what they did after one bad result, the world would be a much different place.

Progression in life is not a long line of success after success, but a mixture of failures and successes.

Its the people who deal best with the failures, and learn important lessons from them, who become great. You can turn a negative into a positive if you learn a valuble lesson from it.

You must then strive to never make the same mistake twice, thus ensuring your development and overall improvement.

Being a great competitor is something that is learnt over a long period of time. The people at the top have to work damn hard to get there, analysing and perfecting their performances non stop. You don't just get that for free.

So stick at it. Its your attitude to issues such as this that will determine your destiny.

Wow! If i could ever come in 4th in a race I would be in Heaven!
I am an above average runner (always finish in top 1/2, usually in top 1/3) but have never come close to winning.
In the NYC marathon I came in 16,041 out of more than 36,000 who finished.
My (net) time was 4 hours 22 minutes and change. Only twice the time it took the winner to finish!

I was very happy with my race. The fact that I could run 26.2 miles and not have to walk or stop.
My goal for next year is 4 hours or less. Eventually I would like to run a marathon in 3:30 to qualify for Boston.

You mentioned becoming the athlete for everyone to admire. I have always put more emphasis on working on results I am happy with, not those I think others will admire. Only one person can win each race. Does that mean that everyone else who runs loses?
I don't think so.
There were over 36,000 finishers in the NYC marathon. Each one of those runners is a winner!

Please don't be so hard on yourself. Run your best and don't worry about winning. As long as you know you are the best you can be, you should be happy with yourself. You continue to train and improve, and will be winning some of your races.
You will have great races, and you will have some bad ones. That happens even to the top runners. Look at what happened to Paula Radcliff in the Olympic marathon last summer.
Then she redeemed herself by winning the NYC marathon!

Don't think too much about what others will think of you, or whether people admire you as an athlete. It will take you nowhere, and make you very unhappy if you feel that you did not live up to what others expected.

Be happy.

tell me about it,

Im the same too,im 13 this yrs, last yr I lose in the 1st heat during the 100m event with a slow time of 13s,<in the state lvl>im not so sure about the traning but I do hv some motivation.Well,we learn from our mistake. If we lose, dont just give up.Take the losing moment as ur motivation to improve urself.Try harder!well if u r running in 800m event,it would be great if u choose 400m as ur 2nd event.I heard that during running in 800m/400m the breathing development is quite important. It can help to maintain ur stamina and prevent urself to lose it too quickly. :o

I just want to say that running the 800 is very different than running the 400. In the 800 distance, there is a transition between energy systems that's very hard for some people to handle. In my experience, the 400 is not much more than a long sprint.
