Hi-
I am a new user. Seems to be a lot of useful info on this site. Here is my situation.
I have just been accepted into the Police Academey.Great but- I have to run 1.5 miles in 18 minutes. I am 42 years old, female, 130 lbs, 5'2. I started running last month, every other day and tonight when I ran, I could only make it about 3/4 of a mile and that was in 8 minutes. My breathing seems to get out of whack the farther I go. I will be tested around the first week of October. I am stressing out because I am so afraid I won't be able to make it that far by then. Please help!
Thanks-

P.S.
I am enjoying it though, I feel better than when I was totally inactive.

Just keep moving, even if its turns into a slow jog, dont stop moving. Its alot harder to get moving again after you stop than to just push it out. Keep your back straight and try to just breath normal, steady breaths.

ps: I'm no expert, but those are a few things I tell myself when i run.

I went through a simalar thing whe i joined the British Navy , i had to get 1.5 miles in 11.15 which seemed impossible but what worked for me was repertition. I went out every night and ran as fast as i could over a 2 mile course , by running further than i had to the mile and a half was easy to achive in the end , but it did take quite a few weeks to gain the standard required . good luck :D
