hi,

i started gaining muscle since last 2 year,and i wasnt really happy with the result that i get. the problem is that I lack of training and couldnt seems to fulfill my schedule, my performance in 100m sprint also drop this year due to my lazyness.....my personal best for 100m is 12.30s[dec 2004]{thanks to everyone who help me to improve}
but this year i ran 13.56s!! in my greatest regret,i consider to quit athletics....but i change my mind later then.now the first thing i wanted to do is to bulk up myself, im gonna take 5 month just for my muscle building,i weight about 50kg and about 170cm tall,i can lift 10kg dumbell,{both hand with 30 rep each} and do about 100 rep for sit up,50 times for push up{but im not sure how much i can do now since i been abadon my training for a long period}.
so pls help me in this kinda situation,i need to build up an athletics body to compete next yr{i lost my place in my school athletics team} bcoz of it i cant do any sprint training so i dont know how is my training progress,i target to run below 11.50s next yr so pls help me,thanks to all poster

I just wanted to say that 50kg for a 170cm is too light.
i am 160cm and I weigh 50kg too.
I think u firstly need to put your mind back into the competition.
I'm sure if you had slipped in your time, your opponents will be smirking underneath their sheets and graced on the fact that your decrease in performacne had benefited them.
ANywayz, I respect your spirit, at least you wanted to get back into the game. If you intend to take 5 months for weight training, my suggestion is that you play a variety of sports, including basketball in particular, which builds your shoulder pretty well and will help to improve your upper body strength when you swing your arms during the sprint.
I respect athletics athletes the most within any other sport, (team sport wins least respect from me tho) because only in athletics will you be able to find the measurement of pure physical extremes in a raw comparison put in front of the spectators eyes without inflicting harm on your opponent.
Many other sports may boast on how fit the players are, but as an ex-sprinter in highschool, I know that only in athletics do you actually see in naked eye the fitness level of athletes measured in a quantified manner.

So you are not going to compete this season? You may find training with them helpful - at least for technique purposes. Many athletes, whether track or any other struggle with skill perfection, even if it is a gym exercise. Giving yourself so much time off from competing will allow you to work extensively on technique. You may not have the same metabolic conditioning as the competitors but if you technique is near as perfect, you become more efficient and will be able to run a hell of a lot quicker. Look at the book by Dr Yessis - Explosive Running. I re-read the book last week and forgot how good the book was. It will also giv you ideas of strength training for running.

At you age, any type of strength training will improve your muscle mass and strength - it does not have to be as structured or technical. I would seek guidance from a fitness professional for improvements. i would also suggest keep sprint trainng if not competing just to get the technique and general programme of a periodised year alive until you start fully next year.

hi,

i know that 50kg for 170cm is too light, that's why im asking u guys to tell me what should i eat espeacially calorie meal.I been trying to gain some weight since last year but maybe bcoz of my young age{low metabolism},so pls send me a guide on what should i eat,

i decided to focus on bodybuilding now bcoz i want to run faster than usual,i need to run below 11.50s-i want to win a medal, i use to play soccer with my friends but most of them are in my school athletics team now, they r so busy training n they even completely forgot about my exit in the team....and the other thing that led to my "out of form" speed beside lazyness is my stretching problem, when i was running my leg seems to be "laggy" not that i afraid of my oppenents but it somehow reduce my speed....

i want build an athletic body, with muscular shoulder, leg, abdomen and arm,so pls help me.thanks to all poster...

Hi Kyle,

I think the reason for youre "leggy" feeling is down to youre diet, this feeling is usually insufficient glycogen in the muscles down to poor carb intake. If you want to gain weight you should be eating every 2-3 hours 5-6 times a day, the most important meal being after you have trained this is where the liver is at it,s most sensitive, the quicker you can get carbs into the system the better re-fuelled you will be for youre next work-out. Something like the folowing

8.00-PORRIDGE-PROTEIN DRINK

11.00-TUNA SANDWHICH-PIECE OF FRUIT

1.30-PASTA-CHICKEN BREAST+VEGTABLES

4.00-TUNA SANDWHICH+PIECE OF FRUIT

5.30 TRAIN????

BAKED POTATOE+TURKEY BREAST+VEGTABLES

9.99 PROTEIN DRINK

This is just an example but you will not be far off if you stick by it,

good luck

Micky

Hi Kyle,

It depends on how long you have been training as to what routine you should be doing, like everything else weight training is a progression from one excersice choice to an upgraded choice when youre body is ready for it. For beginners their tendons & ligaments & bones need strengthened up so training should be done in a safe controlled manner, as they get stonger you can upgrade youre routine accordingly, excersices like squats are for mere advanced trainers & not beginners for more info log onto www.fitnessadvice.co.uk there is a world of good proper advice there,

cheers

Micky :)
