i play midfield...left-footed and 19 for university.
is it more advantageous for me to play left midfield if i;m left footed??
it seemed as tho many a time i need to chase the winger who atacks...what is needed as a midfielder and maybe a winger?
i find centre more a place for me to create opportunities and fight for the possession whilst as a winger, i have even more space for creativity, but with less chance to touch the ball...
my team doens;t seem to utilise full potential of a winger, as they only try to pass the ball to centre forward, where eveyrone fights for it

right... an extra question:
I had football training on friday, but it wasn;t strenueous at all based on the previous type of athletics training i received
but then... when i tried to do some light fitness training on my own today, it seemed as if i was incompetent at all!!
Why is this the case?
is it the psychology?
It seemed that since i started football...my fitness has dropped, and partly due to the fact that the training load is much less than before, made me lose the motivation to do my best, simply beacuse i don;'t need to put so much effort into it anymore.
Or was it purely based on the quantity of the fitness program?
both quantity and quality of trianing i recieved had dropped significantly sicne i trialled for university teams.
Sure to have had done better if my fitness had been looked after by the coaches more carefully.
even the rugby team has a higher fitness requirement than football.
at elast they have an hour each week dedicated to fitness, but the intensity is not as high as i used to do.
ALSO TO note that the team now expects us to maintain fitness by ourselves...
what is the appropriate program that i should follow?
find it frustrating that they expect the athlete to look after the most basic and essential part of the sport themselves...i bet no the athlete themselves are sure to be clear enough of their form all the time.
i guess the main aim of football trianing produces was to practise our organizational skills onthe pitch, but the fact that they rarely play a full match as one of their training events made me felt inconfident about playing in real terms.

for excample, i was trying to do some light fitness trianing on my own
such as running, stretching (extensive ones), nad sprint the 22m line on the rugby pitch, i don;t seem to WANT to do it, would i have lost my interest? could it be a burnout? or was it my lack of trust and confidnce into the team i am in made me lose my motivation?
or my stamina is now gone? i do find myslef not perfrming as well as i sohuld in athletics, for exmaple, my thighs get tired more readily than before when i do sprtins with the proper posture (such as legs lifted up to 90degrees and acheive large strides possible)
I can;t seem to tell myslef to lift up my legs when running... as if i don;t bother at all.
I hope anyone with sports psychology knowledge could teahc me a way to increase my motivation please! thanks

I am a soccer player myself
28th Jun '10, 7:49pm
I am a soccer player myself and recently (last season) moved back to my more natural, fullback position after playing some high levels in the midfield.
I think there could be several factors at work here:
1) Psychology could be a factor now that you seem so deep into this negative self-talk regarding your match fitness.
2) Are you sprinting too much during your own conditioning? Sprints are definitely important, but as a midfielder (especially winger) you need to have a high level of endurance. Start small. Go for a light 2-3km jog. And build up from there. However, get a great plan set in place; incorporate some longer, slower days to work the aerobic system, and add in some shorter high intensity days (SAQ work, hills etc...) Mix it up to keep the body improving and to keep your mind happy.
3) Have your eating habits changed since starting college football? With a higher intensity game, your body will need more nutrients and quality nutrients. I would take a very close look at what you're eating throughout the week, as I think this could be a big factor (including hydration levels).
Hope this helps a bit.
