Hi

I have been researching and assisting my Wife for several years now regarding her diet, she needs to lose a few stone in order to get to her healthy weight.

The problem is, she will work hard in the gym using interval training and weights to get the optimum burn of fats, and her diet consists of 6 small meals of chicken brown rice and veg, or shakes.

She had her gall bladder removed when she was in her early 20's (now 30) and has steadily gained weight since, it is very hard on her motivation and confidence to work so hard and watch what she eats for such little reward.

I have run out of ideas, and wondered if anyone had experience of this, or new what to do. It has some very experienced trainers baffled.

Is she eating something you don't know about?

I have to say if all I got was chicken, vegetables and brown rice I'd be sneaking food :)

I would see your role as more supportive, she is the one who needs to learn about food then she can make informed choices.

But variety is so important. Perhaps a real shake up is due?

Just possibly you are placing too much store on the phrase 'healthy weight'

If your wife works as hard on weight training as you say then she is proabably has quite a lot of muscle and a low body fat ratio (you can get this measured on the scales in the gym). If her body fat is within the healthy range then neither of you should worry too much.

The BMI charts are not the be all and end all, boxers and athletes can be over the 'healthy' BMI because it doesn't take body fat into account, only weight.
