The most simple of ladder drills can be used for beginners and young athletes to teach them about moving quickly. The ladder drill can also be used to teach running mechanics. This ladder drill is easily mastered and improvements can be made in a short period of time.

Posture

I've been looking at the posture of both myself and our athletes when they run through ladders. I think there is a tendency to hunch over, as shown in the video. I don't think this is a good practice. Most of our runners run on the fells or orienteer. We teach them that they need to focus on the ground 3-4 metres in front when running across rough terrain. I have found that if you get them to start several metres behind the ladder, and run through with their gaze point well in front their posture is better.

Any comments?
