Peak Performance Launches Olympics 2008 Blog
Telling Non-Olympians how to do it too!
Award-winning website Peak Performance Online has launched a Beijing Olympics blog aimed at athletes and coaches. Every day during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, Peak Performance's bloggers will be keeping a close eye on the Olympics from our unique perspective as leaders in sports training knowledge. The blog is backed up by a daily email newsletter, Beijing Performance Bulletin. Peak Performance's bloggers explain the science behind the stories and tell athletes and coaches what the top Olympians are doing, how they do it and how non-Olympians can do it too.
This unique focus sets the Peak Performance Olympic Blog apart from news sites and fan blogs. This summer, the feats of Olympic athletes will inspire millions of people worldwide to want to run further, swim faster, train harder - or maybe just get fitter. Taking part in sport is the best way to stay healthy, lose weight and gain confidence, and interest in sport is never higher than during the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Blog will be regularly updated every day with the most interesting stories from the Olympics, across a wide range of sports, with tips on how to get faster, fitter and stronger. Each blog posts links to in-depth articles that will tell readers all they need to know about the issue. For example, if readers want to know more about drug testing and why some athletes are tempted to ruin their sporting careers, Peak Performance explains what those drugs do. We also explain which legal supplements can be used to enhance performance.
The Peak Performance site is full of training tips and advice for keen athletes. Topics covered on Peak Performance Online include sports injury, strength training, speed training, endurance and nutritional supplements. Our writers are ahead of the pack when it comes to important issues like how pollution affects sports performance. Much of the press coverage in the build-up to the Beijing Olympics has concentrated on the issue of air pollution and the Chinese governments' attempts to control it. The Peak Performance Olympic Blog looks at the wider issues for athletes around the world who train every day in urban environments. Peak Performance writer Alison McConnell advised athletes to take the following steps: check the pollution forecasts; be particularly cautious if you have asthma; consider taking antioxidant vitamin supplements (100mg vitamin E + 500mg vitamin C); and consider using a personal air filtration device.
Visitors to the blog will be able to leave comments and join in with our community, either on our forum or in our busy Q&A section where sports enthusiasts share knowledge and exchange ideas. This is the place where serious sports lovers - people who do sport rather than just watch it - can talk about the athletes they admire and their opinions on how they can learn lessons from the elite.
