About Frankie Gavin: Gavin had entered the 2008 Beijing Olympics as one of Great Britain’s greatest gold medal hopes. The former sparring partner of Amir Kahn has so far enjoyed a successful lightweight boxing career, highlighted by an unlikely gold medal at the 2007 World Championships. The 24-year-old from Birmingham caused a huge upset when he defeated Russian favourite Alexey Tischenko in the semi-final and went on to defeat Italian Domenico Valentino in the final. Unfortunately Gavin has failed to meet the required weight to compete in the lightweight division and will no longer be able to fight at the Olympics.
