Argentina’s Olympic football team are the favourites to win gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Lionel Messi will undoubtedly be one of their key players. His dribbling, close control, pace and vision will be integral to their success and he will be Argentina’s main attacking threat.
The Olympic rule that each squad must consist only of players under the age of 23 (with 3 members allowed to exceed this age) will only increase Messi’s influence in the games, as he will be facing largely inexperienced defenders. The main challenge Messi (and Argentina) will face in achieving Olympic gold comes from their age-old rivals Brazil, who will be relying on Ronaldinho to regain his previous form. If the tournament shapes up as many expect it to - culminating in a Brazil vs. Argentina final - then it should prove an irresistible tussle for the limelight between Messi and Ronaldinho.
