The US Olympic swimming team have arrived in their Singapore training camp and have already shrouded themselves in controversy. Twenty-one year old Jessica Hardy has tested positive for a banned substance. She had three tests in early July and failed one on 4th July, Independence Day. She is now dependent on a fair hearing which could see her re-instated. It certainly appears that something may have been overlooked if she passed the other two.
Watch out for 50-metre freestyler Dara Torres. She'll be aiming for ultimate glory at the age of 41, almost double Jessica Hardy's age.
In the men's swimming team Micheal Phelps is once again aiming to eclipse Spitz's immortal record of seven golds by plumping for eight. Aussie swimming legend Ian Thorpe believes Phelps will fall short, as he did in Athens when he won six gold and two bronzes. He probably will - the competition is just too strong - but it sure will make for fantastic poolside viewing.
