I am a 14 year old male in Hamilton, Canada. I am a sprinter and was wondering what event would best fit me. My current t100m time is 11.4 while my 400m time is 55 seconds. I have good speed endurance but can also be explosive for shorter distances. Please send me your feedback.

That is a quick 100 metre time for your age. I only manage to break the 11 second barrier when I was 18. Was not running that quick at 14. I would say 100 metres but then again its up to you what you prefer.

At your age I wouldn't be too concerned with specialising in any one event.

I would also agree that 11.4 sec for your age is good, however to run say 46 secs or better (when you are older) you will need to capable of running comfortably under 11 secs something like 10.6/10.7 at least. To run sub 46 you will need to be able to run quicker yet for the 100.

Hence I would suggust you continue to work on your basic speed whilst running the occasional 400m if you want too. The anaerobic system is still not fully developed until your older so if your not fully grown which is likely and you try to train for the 400m you will not necessarily see the desired effects. If you do it is likely that it's due to you growing and not the training, it's hard to say in pre-adolescents sometimes! The 400m is a much more anaerobic intense compared with the 100m.

Continue to work on pure speed and enjoy competing and don't specilise to soon. You may make a very good 400m runner in the future, but ideally speak to an experience coach.

Damn that is a good 100m time at the age of 14. Don't worry about the 400m you will improve on it for sure. I am from South Africa and only started training at the age of 17. I run a 11sec 100m but had a 47,4sec 400m. At your age just enjoy the sport!

I am 21 now and have started training after taking a break from sprinting for 2 years, and that was due to me putting to much pressure on myself to perform at the age of 19. Never put pressure on yourself at a young age. If you dream about a life in athletics then take your time and plan it right. You have a massive amount of time ahead of you!

Well done on that 100m time!

Well running that time in a 100m is good but i got a friend that runs 10.50 in a 100m and he's same age as you. But despite all that your doing good.
