Circuit Training: how to increase speed

Privacy Policy [opens in new window]

Speed is the capacity to perform successive movements at a fast rate. As well as thinking about speed as ‘running speed’ it is really the development of the ability to move the limbs quickly, which is needed in a variety of sports and events, e.g. javelin, discus, tennis, squash etc. Therefore, there is more to think about than just performing flat out sprints.

Varying your sprint sessions and speed training will ensure that every aspect of your speed is focused on and developed in order to achieve maximum progression.

This circuit training video focuses on sprint training as an example for constructing your own speed development circuit.

I would suggest that the athlete needs to develop his core stability, the core stabilization on the Leg cycling and Hip drive is very poor

Hi John,
had a look at the video,
could you explain what you mean by the core stabilization on the Leg cycling and Hip drive being poor - is there too much movement?
